071- Application for Revision and Interpretation of the Judgment of 24 Feb. 1982 (Tunisia vs Libya)

On July 27th, 1984, Tunisia submitted to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) an application for revision and interpretation of its judgment rendered on February 24th, 1982 in the 063- The Continental Shelf Case (Tunisia vs Libya).

Under the Statute of the Court, a revision of a judgment is possible only if a fact of such a decisive influence is discovered. Libya opposed Tunisia’s double request, on the one hand by denying the difficulties of application invoked by Tunisia, and on the other hand by maintaining that the Tunisian request for interpretation was in fact only a disguised request for revision.

In its unanimous judgment of December 10th 1985, the ICJ rejected the application for revision as inadmissible; it declared admissible the request for an interpretation of the judgment of February 24th, 1982 in so much as it concerned the first sector of the delimitation envisaged in that judgment and gave adequate details.
