002- Conditions of Admission of a State to Membership in the UN
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has been asked to rule on the interpretation of Article 4 of the Charter of the United Nations concerning the admission of a new State to the UN General Assembly. The Court considered that the conditions set out in Article 4 are exhaustive and that when they are met, the Security Council must issue the recommendation enabling the General Assembly to decide on the accession of the candidate State.
